Retirement - Incentives

Many different reasons on why to retire here, the weather, the cost of living, the restaurants, the people. There are however some considerations that one should review prior to making that big decision, such as the language barrier ( Spanish is the National language and no matter what you hear, it is prominent. English however, is understood by many and in most instances one can get by with only that knowledge ).

Retirement - Accommodation
To many this is the prime consideration. Surprisingly housing is quite good and usually reasonable compared to North American costs. We personally reviewed several Condominium units and were pleasantly surprised as to the quality and size. Housing outside of Panama City in areas like Boquette and El Valle are more like single family dwellings but can be quite nice. One needs to be reminded that prices here are from the end of 2005. Retirement - Golfing

No, there is not a golf course at every retirement location, but in Panama City you have a choice of 3-5 quality golf courses and outside of Panama City, there are courses at Royal Decameron Resort and in Boquette also.

Retirement - Driving

Panama does have some world class highways, some adequate expressways, and quite a few two-way highways, but there are also roads that one would consider not to be driveable unless you were in a 4-Wheel drive vehicle. One thing about Panama however is that distances between locations are really not that great. I would review with others as to road selection, prior to heading out. Would recommend investigation prior to any commitment for long term
Try a central lodging location in Panama City first, then investigate from there.
